Contest Details

Extend Firefox 3 is a developer contest to encourage development and innovation in Web experience through add-ons to Firefox 3.

All entries will be judged by a panel of experts, with prizes awarded for entries that make use of new capabilities being introduced in Firefox 3 and that demonstrate excellence in user experience, innovativeness, and use of open standards.

Prizes will also be awarded to existing Firefox Add-ons that are updated for Firefox 3, and that show significant improvements in user experience and performance.

Important Dates

This edition of the contest began March 17th, 2008 and entries will be accepted untill 11:59pm Pacific Time on July 4th, 2008.

Winners will be announced on or about August 4th, 2008.

Prizes

Best New Add-on

Awarded for entries that make use of new capabilities being introduced in Firefox 3 and that demonstrate excellence in user experience, innovativeness, and use of open standards.

There will be three grand prize winners in this category and each will receive a prize package comprising:

Travel and accommodation to a Mozilla Developer Day of the winner's choice, anywhere in the world
Development gear, including a brand new 13" Macbook Air with VMware Fusion and ActiveState Komodo
Firefox Ogio Messenger Bag stuffed with t-shirts, books, stickers, mugs, and more

There will be six runner's up in this category and each will receive a prize package comprising:

ActiveState Komodo, mug, and t-shirt

Best Updated Add-on

Awarded to existing Firefox Add-ons that are updated for Firefox 3, and that show significant improvements in user experience and performance.

There will be three winners in this category and each will receive a prize package comprising:

Development gear, including a brand new 15" Macbook Pro with VMware Fusion and ActiveState Komodo
Firefox Ogio Messenger Bag stuffed with t-shirts, books, stickers, mugs, and more

Best Music Add-on

Awarded for the best music-related entry that demonstrate excellence in user experience, innovativeness, and use of open standards.

There will be one winner in this category who will receive a prize package comprising:

Travel and accomodation to visit Last.fm in London, England and to attend a Last.fm/Presents live event.
Logitech Squeezebox network music player.
