Will there be a collaborative version of Weave?

I have clients who work together on projects yet are employed by different entities. Can they combine, for example, their bookmarks? Just by sharing their password?

As an aside to the main question, this is a marvellous addition to Firefox's functionality.

Thank you.

I had to disable it: it often (but not always) makes the browser quite unresponsive (Fx 3.5). The highlighting could barely follow the pointer as I moved the mouse over menus, and the UI became "choppy". :-( Beside Weave I have AdblockPlus (with Element Hider), Zotero, FoxyProxy and Mouse Gestures Redox.

Is it possible to specify my own server for weave to use for syncing?

Some people may be OK with their password and bookmark data being out "in the cloud" but I like to keep tabs on exactly where mine is and how it's used. Your privacy policies are great but I'd rather have it on a server that's not a target for hackers.

If you ought to add a functionality where you store/sync the data in MobileME for Mac users, I would expect a lot of users for firefox ont this plattform.

Safari has a feature of syncing through Mobile ME service, and if you guys (which has the best browser experience) ought to same it would be a killer app.

Has anyone who is using this tried the XMarks addon (used to be called FoxMarks).
I am just wondering what the functionality difference is.

@Ibrahim - That does sound like a bug, please file one.

As for Addon collector, Weave doesn't interact with it right now, but it's something we definitely want to get to in the future.

Thanks for using Weave.

I REALLY would like to have the ability sync with my own server.
Cant say that is not nice to use someone's powerful server specs if I'm a newbie or something like it, but when talking about my stuff, I would like to have the option to sync with my own ftp.
Let the two options available please, just like xmarks.

Will it in the future be possible to change the OpenID provider Weave uses? Many of us already have one and use it on a growing number of websites. It'd be a pain to associate all of them with the new OpenID.

Also, being a bit of a 'control freak', I like to have as much control as possible over certain information (that is, what information I disclose, which websites are allowed access to that information and which not, etc.), and my current OpenID provider allows such management.

As for the rest, Weave 0.4 is a definite improvement. Keep up the great work!

PS: is it possible to change the e-mail address with which I have signed up for Weave?

Awesome! I recently installed Weave again after a while of not using it, and I noticed one bug, but maybe it has to do with an extension. My live bookmarks don't have any names, they all say (no title) which is really a pain. This could possibly be because of the extension LiveClick, but I'm not sure, and I would rather give up Weave than LiveClick. I will probably file a bug report or something if I figure out more, but anyway, thanks for the release, I'm sure eventually everyone will want to use Weave.

Incidentally, how is Weave supposed to interact with the new Addon Collector? Will Weave eventually include functionality for synchronizing extensions as well, and extension settings? That's really the main other thing that I want out of Weave. Thanks!

Oh gawd, I don't like the backwards incompatibility thing at all. Is there at least a way to provide both old and new parser version of my commands in a single file? Say, a command can obviously have both "takes", "modifiers" and "arguments" filled out, but there is no way to provide two different preview/execute functions for the old and new parser because they take different number of arguments! How can I update my commands without breaking them for people who are still using an old version of Ubiquity?

There is something seriously funky with 0.5...

I'm trying yo map an address and I type:
map

And I get suggestions to do everything *except to map*!

This isn't an isolated incident either, I try googling something by typing "google" and it asks if I want to add it to my google calender, gmail it or any of googles other services, except search?!

Same for wikipedia, I type "wikipedia" and it asks to look for wikipedia in wikicommons...

I'm sure you guys get the picture.

@Adam:
The skin used in the images is called "Ubiquity Evolved".
If you have a recent version of Ubiquity, it should be included already.
Just type "skin" into the Ubiquity command line -- it will suggest "change ubiquity skin". Hit return and it will open the Settings page, where you can switch your skin to "ubiquity evolved".

Great update. One thing that is really annoying is that when I'm typing a command, the command suggestions come in and out very quickly. And since the ubiquity takes up a lot of space, it almost makes it seem like the left side of my screen is flickering.

@Mitchell McKenna: Use the "list ubiquity commands" command and then look for commands that are shown with strikethrough and a little red bubble that says "old api". If they're not commands that you need, you can then unsubscribe from the feeds. A likely culprit is the "image editing commands" feed -- those commands were moved to an experimental feed for 0.5, but upgrading the extension won't automatically unsubscribe you from the feed. If you do it manually, you'll stop getting the message.

Hi David,

this is certainly a good idea - it just feels a bit over-engineered. To give you an idea - currently the votes are pretty evenly spread across the page (from top to bottom).

Warm regards,

Hi,

If that's the case, then why not sort randomly using the ip of the user as a key (and saving the ip as a cookie, in case the user gets a different ip). That way entries with a low alphabetic letter won't have an advantage. Or select a number of random entries and display them at the top (5 or something like that), allowing a user to explore entries unbaised.

Firefox 3.0.11 / Ubiquity 0.5

I am getting an error on browser opening: "Some verbs were not loaded as they are not compatible with parser 2"

Which means, I cannot use the email selected text / URLs - 'help email' comes up but I cannot access my gmail contacts as normal. I have been using ubiquity for quite a while now and have seen the gmail contact connectivity break before, I believe it was a sometime known issue but I've never had this ubiquity notification before.

Performance is an issue overall.
The parser takes too long to map my typing to the command I want to invoke.

E.g. By the time I have typed "wiki ubiquity" and hit the enter button nothing happens... no tab is opened. It seems like the reasoner is invoked every time a character is typed, but cannot present the result before I hit enter.

Hi David,

Thank you for your suggestion.

The reason why we opted not to sort the results randomly is the simple fact that you make it really hard for someone to come back and find a specific entry - e.g. when you watch the first 20 entries and then want to watch some more after that.

The reason why we don't sort by vote count is to avoid bias - there are numerous studies which show that when you present preliminary results to a voters, they will automatically go for the top scorers.

Which is the reason why we opted to sort the entries by a somewhat arbitrary order - alphabetically by name. :)

Best
-Pascal

Thank you for your suggestion.

The reason why we opted not to sort the results randomly is the simple fact that you make it really hard for someone to come back and find a specific entry – e.g. when you watch the first 20 entries and then want to watch some more after that.

The reason why we don’t sort by vote count is to avoid bias – there are numerous studies which show that when you present preliminary results to a voters, they will automatically go for the top scorers.

Which is the reason why we opted to sort the entries by a somewhat arbitrary order – alphabetically by name. :)

Best

There is a known bug in 0.5pre that degrades performance heavily when text is selected. We are working on making a patch for this bug as quickly as possible.
